Casa Paradiso

I raided one of the persimmon trees in the fields nearby and dragged my raffia bag home; I got nearly 20 kilos! What shall I do with  them? Any suggestions please?
Weather forecasts have been warning us of severe weather hitting most of Italy from today. Temperatures are said to plummet to minus zero and strong winds will wreck havoc; the wind has already arrived. This region is known for its wind, especially where I live. It is so strong and scary and keeps me awake all the night. My whole house shakes and it feels like a 1000 wolves outside the house howling.

Anyway, we, Kiwi, Luna and I, at Casa Paradiso (hehe, this what I call my abode and hopefully it will be the name of my future farm) are ready. I stocked inside the house enough wood to last us few days; my pantry is brimming with food but since I moved in Italy I always keep a shelf in my pantry full of emergency food during winter because you never know when you might get stuck in your house for few days or even weeks. So, even if we have a power cut due to strong wind, we will be ok; I cook on a wood-burning stove and it provides heating as well. We have plenty of fruits and yesterday, when I heard of the upcoming storm, I raided one of the persimmon trees in the fields, hehe. What you see in the photo is my raffia bag with some of the persimmons; I filled that raffia bag to the brim and it was so heavy to walk all the way back to my house, with Kiwi in tow crying ad feeling scared, hehe. He has this bad habit of following me when I go into the fields foraging, then he gets scared and starts to cry and looking towards our house., hehe. Wish us luck.  :)

  1. Hi Cy...Rough weather coming to east coast usa as well..calling it "frankenstorm" possibly worst storm ever.Unfortunatly, most are not as well prepared as yourself. I was caught out in a blizzard when I lived in Wyoming..very scary..now I always heed the warnings and hope you do the same. Seems like Mother Nature has been brutal this year with the drought and now these storms. As for those persimmons, I would make a persimmon wine. Look forward to your blog post each week. David

  2. Hello David,
Thank you so much for your kind wishes. We are fine and my region wasn't badly hit as other regions in Italy. Though we still have very strong wind.

My heart and prayers go out for people and animals who were affected by storm Sandy. It is so devastating :(
Thanks or reading my blog; I think you are the only reader :)

Where do you live at the moment? East or west coast? I do hope you and your loved ones are safe and sound.
