Wood, snow, summer, chickens, Oranges, etc

Eggs, Jerusalem Artichoke, turnips and cauliflower from a local farmer.
It is freezing, snowed yesterday; we ran out of wood (we just have some for a couple of days); and I don't feel well (same old frustrating and debilitating issue of my bowel condition)

It is amazing that the wood lasted till now, as it was my only source for heating and cooking since November! The tube for the wood-burning stove and heater is clogged by soot and needs to be cleaned soon.

On the brighter side I planted tomatoes, bell pepper, cucumber, and zucchini indoors. They will be transported to the vegetable plot in April. This year I'm planning to grow onion, beans, peas, lots of tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, artichoke (will be planted next week), lots of herbs, chards and others.

Other news, my friend's husband agreed to build a chicken coop for me :) Now I need to ask the landlady for permission. I'm going to ask her son as he is nice and I'm sure he wouldnt mind. I'm so excited about the chickens. I'm going to get small chicks, 6 females and a male, hehe.

Kiwi perched on his favorite spot.

Lunch last summer alfresco. I can't wait for summer, sun, heat, ice cream, more sun and heat :)
Luna sleeping in front of the wood-burning stove. Poor Luna she is very weak and has a chronic cold (her nose is always blocked) but she is very brave.
Have you ever roasted orange? Try it it is so yummy. I use organic oranges sliced with skin, sprinkle with dried herbs, chili powder and cinnamon.

Updates 17/3/13
I collected some wood this morning and started a fire in the fireplace, as the wood-burning stove is so clogged. It is amazing, I even cooked on the open fire :) I'm sitting next to it right now. Perfect.

About Me

My photo
I left my well paid job to pursue a life as an off grider, living off the land, eating only seasonal and local food; growing my own food, raising checkins for eggs. I live on a very little money but I'm happy and content. Never been this happy before. Welcome to my world.
