Snow white

-Snow, snow; it has been snowing since the morning nonstop :( It is freezing outside; I went out this morning to feed the cats and fetch some wood and my hands froze, seriously. they still hurt, I guess I got frostbite.

-The central heating decided to die this morning, as well as the hot water! I do not care about the central heating and rarely use it, as it gives me headaches but the hot water is essential. I guess I will have to heat water on the wood-burning stove the old fashion way.

-Kiwi and Luna went nuts for  the snow; playing and chasing each other :) Luna looks so pretty with a white coat on :)

-Well, I have lots of wood, electricity and internet, so it is not that bad after all. I'm going to spend the next few days huddled to the fireplace, reading, drinking chai with cardamon and cloves, eating copious amounts of organic homemade popcorns and cuddling to my kitties :)

  1. I just posted about snow! Stay warm -- a lot of inconveniences (both major and minor) can be remedied with the liberal application of cats and internet (and cats on the internet).

(This is Anna from twelve22, by the way -- there's no Name/URL option!)

    1. Hi Anna, the liberal application of cats and internet is spot on, though we can never achieve the phenomenon of Sofa Raft at Casa Paradiso :)

As for the Name/URL option, I have no clue because my knowledge is so basic; actually I'm terrified of IT and technology in general. If something happens while I'm online, like a page disappears or whatever, I panic and sweat and nearly have a heart attack, seriously. It is a miracle that I started a blog and managed to post photos, which is the only thing I can do.

I see you are having a snow galore in your corner of the world :)

  2. Hi Cyrene, Love the changing seasons..and the snow so long as it doesn't whip up into a blizzard. Question??? was wondering what a small farmstead in your area would fetch in US $. Do you see many from the US buying in your area? Stay warm and give those kitties a hug for me. David...

    1. Hello David,
No blizzard yet, thank goodness. Well, your question needs a post and I will try to write it soon. But here is a short answer:

Prices have come down but still they are higher than other regions. My region, Marche, is a rich one, though not as poplar as Tuscany where most Americans seem to be buying. Here there are a lot of British and A LOT of German and Dutch.

The problem with farm houses here is that they are quite huge and very rarely you find a medium-sized one. And if you do, usually it is part of another house occupied by another family. It could belong to another brother who is not selling his part, so you end up living with a next door neighbor, literary next door, and whom you might not get on well with.

I guess the best way is to come and spend some time in this region and go to the south of the region (I'm in the north) and have a look. As far as I know the south of Italy is cheaper but still I do not have any figures. If you are interested I can ask around for you and if you are very keen on buying here I suggest that you come here, spend some time then you decide. I'm quite happy to help you with accommodation and contacts. You can stay with a friend of mine who has an organic pigs' farm; she has spare room for guests but we have to arrange it first. You need to rent a car as well to be able to travel around the region to look for a place. Summer is the best time to do so, as it is easy to drive around to get to isolated places and little villages scattered around.

The kitties say hi to :) I've never seen cats so excited about snow as Kiwi and Luna. I wish I have a video camera to document it :(

And mind you, the Euro is down against the dollar, so this is good news :

About Me

My photo
I left my well paid job to pursue a life as an off grider, living off the land, eating only seasonal and local food; growing my own food, raising checkins for eggs. I live on a very little money but I'm happy and content. Never been this happy before. Welcome to my world.
