This morning...

This morning we, the cats and I, were terrorized by four armed hunters. I was out feeding the cats and cutting some branches when the shooting started. I dived onto the earth looking for cover as bullets were swishing around us! They were down the hill in front of the house, so they were shooting up towards us. I started shouting at them: bastardini, merde, go away, this a private land (they were on the land belonged to the house where I lived) but they just kept shooting and talking. Anyway, I got into the house and stayed inside until they went. I was shaking and worrying about the cats, as they have a habit of shooting cats as well! The cats were terrified as well, shaking with sheer fear. Then I broke down crying. I thought of the little kids and their teachers and their families and cried my eyes out.

It is beyond me that hunters can get into your land and shoot at animals and terrorize you and your family with immunity. Yep, they can do so here in Italy and the law is in their side! What a fucked up world we are living in! I'm mad and sad and wish I can move into an isolated island where there is no access to it.

  1. Yikes! I'm glad you and the cats are all safe. Luckily, people aren't allowed to hunt on privately-owned land here, although I still worry about stray shots -- you just have to hope that people know where property lines are. Stay safe!

    1. Thanks Anna, it is so strange here that hunters can get to your private land and you can't do anything about it. Imagine if there were kids here. I mean there are kids in the other houses scattered on the mountain, I can hear them when it is very clear and still, so I do not know how they cope with this annual terror!

I left my well paid job to pursue a life as an off grider, living off the land, eating only seasonal and local food; growing my own food, raising checkins for eggs. I live on a very little money but I'm happy and content. Never been this happy before. Welcome to my world.
